Beadboard Paneling

Paneling can be used to decorate a family room, dining room, home office, master bath, or laundry room in your home.

Much like adding new cabinetry or doors, something as simple as putting up beadboard paneling can completely transform the look and feel of a room; it's a great way to break apart those boring walls and add a little something extra to any room.

Installation can be easy, especially if you have the know-how to handle obstacles such as electrical outlets, doorways, or windows; or have the talent to make it gracefully turn corners. A project like this can give any room in your home a major face lift, but also consume a lot of your time. Achieve the new look you want without the hassle and time investment by having a skilled craftsman from A1 Handyman (208) 995-6457 help you roll through your "To Do" list.

Installation Tips

Beadboard paneling is available in 32-inch (wainscot) and tongue-and-groove boards or 8-foot long sheets. For panel heights taller than 32 inches, purchase full lengths and trim them. The ideal installation size depends largely on the area to be covered.

Install a framework consisting of 1"x3" or 1"x4" kiln-dried furring strips before installing beaded plank and other paneling on uneven, rough, or cracked walls. Make sure to install a vapor barrier if the room is below ground level. Always follow manufacturer recommendations.

Prior to installation, make sure to acclimate all wood materials to the temperature and humidity of the room or area in which the paneling will be installed. Place spacers in between panel layers to allow air to circulate between the panels. Wood paneling typically requires at least 48 hours of acclimation before installation because wood expands and contracts with temperature.

Prep all walls by removing any electrical covers, moldings, or other protruding objects. Make sure to measure the surface twice, and cut the beadboard appropriately. When installing 4x8 sheets of paneling, start and end each panel on a stud and anchored with finishing nails.
